Retirement planning

Make your savings last

We look at your pensions, Social Security and savings together, then help you decide what to keep, what to roll over and how to turn it into income.

  1. 401k rollovers

Moving an old employer's 401k into an account you control, so it doesn't sit forgotten.

  2. 403b rollovers for teachers and nurses

The same careful process for teachers, school staff, nurses and nonprofit employees with a 403b.

  3. Income that lasts

Options such as annuities can turn part of your savings into a steady paycheck in retirement.

  4. Tax questions go to a tax pro

We coordinate with your plan and point you to a tax professional when your situation calls for it.

Rollover questions

Should I roll over my 401k to an IRA?

Not always. Leaving it in the old plan, moving it to your new employer's plan or rolling it into an IRA or annuity each have pros and cons. We'll compare them for your situation.

Can I roll over a 403b?

Yes. When you leave your job or retire, a 403b can usually be rolled into an IRA or annuity. Some plans also allow rollovers at certain ages while you're still working.

Will a rollover cost me taxes?

A direct rollover from your plan to another qualified account is generally not taxable. Cashing out usually is, and may add a penalty before age 59½.

What is the 60-day rollover rule?

If the money is paid to you, you generally have 60 days to deposit it in another qualified account to avoid taxes. A direct rollover avoids this risk, so we usually recommend it.
